I have a WWII question?

Why is it that most film footage of the war seems to be shot in B&W in the europe and in color in the Pacific? Yes, I know color footage exists of the ETO, I've seen a lot of it. But, there seems to be more B&W footage than color. Other than the footage of Pearl Harbor. I can't recall too much b&w footage at all in the pacific. Anybody notice this other than me?
